What organizing is (and how it differs from mobilizing and advocacy), its traditions from labor unions to Saul Alinsky, Ella Baker and the civil rights movement, one-on-one relationship building, turning problems into winnable issues, building an organization that lasts, campaigns and tactics, negotiating and consolidating wins, and the ethical questions and common pitfalls that every organizer faces.

The aim is understanding, not recruitment: you should finish able to explain how organizers think about power, plan a small campaign on a local issue, and weigh the strongest criticisms of different organizing traditions. No background needed.
